What is the best way to raise the grain before finishing?
Apply a small amount of water to the stock, let dry completely, then sand lightly with 220+ grit. Repeat 2-3 times. This raises then knocks down fibers so the final surface is open and takes finish evenly. Do not skip this on figured maple.
