What patch material and thickness should I use?

Ticking (pillow ticking, blue or red), #40 cotton drill, and similar woven cottons all work well. The patch should fit snugly with felt resistance when seating the ball. Approximate starting thicknesses: .015" for .40-.45 cal, .018-.022" for .50-.58 cal.
