Never trip the lock with the frizzen open

Jim stated it is not acceptable under any circumstances to trip (dry-fire) the lock without the frizzen closed, because without the frizzen absorbing energy, the cock comes to an abrupt stop that can bend the top jaw screw and is hard on the lock overall.
