Appalachian Barn Gun Kit (Percussion) — Step 5: Installing the Trigger Plate and Trigger

Video for this step: https://kiblerslongrifles.com/v/barn-gun-5. Woodsrunner video. The process is the same.

• Install the trigger plate in the stock. Tap it in place to ensure it is fully seated in the inlet, then install the tang bolt. The tang and trigger plate are already drilled and tapped for this bolt.

• Insert the trigger into the slot in the plate. Use the included undersized drill bit to help align the pin hole in the stock and trigger. Tap a section of pin stock in place to act as the trigger pivot, and make sure the trigger moves freely.

• Hold the trigger between your fingers and try to move it back and forth. There should be a small amount of slack between the trigger and the lock sear; that is, you should have to pull the trigger back just slightly before it engages the sear.

• Confirm you have slack at both half cock and full cock. There should be absolutely no pressure on the lock sear.

• If there is contact with the sear, remove the trigger and file a small amount of material from the top of the trigger bar. Repeat the steps above until there is play between the trigger and sear.

Tip: This slack is a safety feature. Do not skip the half-cock and full-cock check. The sear must not be under pressure until the trigger is deliberately pulled.
