Appalachian Barn Gun Kit (Percussion) — Pin Hole Drill Jig

The pin hole drill jig is used to extend the pre-drilled 1/16" stock holes through the undrilled metal parts. Using the jig avoids enlarging the holes in the wood, which can happen with ordinary drilling.

Instructions:

1. Fit the metal part fully into place and secure it with a clamp using light to medium pressure.

2. Push the drill guide fully into the hole to be drilled.

3. Chuck the supplied #55 drill bit (which fits the drill guide) into an electric drill.

4. Insert the drill bit into the guide, hold the knurled brass knob, and begin drilling the metal part.

5. Back the drill out frequently to clear chips.

6. Drill until the hole extends through the metal part being drilled.

7. Switch to the larger supplied drill bit.

8. Remove the drill guide and insert the drill bit into the stock hole.

9. Hold the drill so the bit is in line with the hole and slowly drill through the metal part. Stop once you have drilled completely through it.

Tip: A video of this process can be found at jimkibler.net/drill-jig.html.
