Southern Mountain Rifle Kit — Step 7: Installing the Guard

• Fit the guard to the stock using the same general process described for fitting other metal parts. The guard may have to be bent slightly for proper alignment.

• Clamp the guard tightly to the stock and continue the pre-drilled pin holes through the guard tabs.

Tip: As an alternative, clamp the guard to the stock and spot the hole locations with the 1/16" drill bit. Remove the guard, center-punch each spot, then drill the holes through the tabs. When installing pins for the first time, file or grind a generous taper on the pin ends to aid alignment.
