Woodsrunner Rifle Kit — Notes on Fitting Parts to Stock
• A slight draft (2–3°) is advisable on the edges of metal parts. Clean up edges with a fine file, and maintain that draft as you work.
• Inlets are made to fit with little to no work, or may be slightly tight. Trim wood with a sharp chisel, knife, or gouge, or remove a small amount of metal, as needed.
• Use transfer color (candle soot, soot mixed with oil, or Prussian blue) sparingly to spot tight contact points.
Tip: Whenever a later step tells you to “adjust the fit,” return to these notes. The same transfer-color-and-trim process applies to every metal part.
