USE BLACK POWDER ONLY. NEVER USE SMOKELESS POWDER. Smokeless powder can cause your gun to explode.

• Wear eye protection whenever you are filing, drilling, or peening.

• Keep the lock unprimed while you fit and test it. Remove the flint when you work the lock by hand, and always put it back before you trip the lock (see Step 9 and Lock Care and Use). Keep your hands out of the flint’s travel path.

• The trigger/sear slack check in Step 9 is a safety feature; never skip it. There should be no pressure on the sear until the trigger is deliberately pulled.

• Use caution when installing or adjusting the patchbox catch spring, since it is under tension and can spring free unexpectedly.

• Treat the assembled firearm as loaded at all times and follow all applicable firearm safety rules and local laws.
