How to apply iron nitrate?
You can use iron nitrate on maple and ash. You can use two coats, so you don't miss anything. Let the first coat dry before applying the second. The second coat will not make the stock ay darker, it will just help to ensure that you got everything covered. You do not have to do two coats. You need to use a heat gun, a regular hair dryer will NOT work. You do not need an expensive heat gun, we have used one from Harbor Freight and it has worked just fine. Don't hold the heat gun too close because you can burn your stock. Also, the color won't fully come out until you apply your finishing oil. You can always request some scraps to be added to your kit for practice.
