Bone Black

Bone Black is used to darken a gunstock.

To use Bone Black, tap out a little bit of bone black and pour a little bit of finishing oil into separate piles on a non-absorbent surface.

To use Bone Black, first dampen the brush a little bit in the finishing oil, then pick up a little bit of the bone black with the tip of the brush.

To distribute Bone Black throughout the oil, rub the bristles of the brush around on a non-absorbent surface.

If the brush tip is too wet when using Bone Black, pick up more bone black and distribute it throughout the bristles again.

The brush used with Bone Black can be dried by working the tip on a paper towel.

Once a thin, dry, dark finish is achieved with Bone Black, apply it by rubbing it around and working it into the low spots on the stock.

Applying Bone Black should be repeated, loading the brush and applying to the stock, until one very thin coat is on the stock.

Multiple applications of Bone Black are needed since one coat is never enough; layers must be built up to darken the stock.
